2-Year Old Preschool Class
We feel that it is important to begin teaching children early in order to establish a life-long pattern of learning. We begin with toddlers who are capable of following simple directions and instill the notion that in order to succeed in life, there is a need for appropriate behavior, in appropriate places at appropriate time. We believe that discipline is primal to learning & we work hard with our two-year olds to promote behaviors that are conducive to learning. In addition, we do introduce concepts of science, technology, engineering and mathematics using elements in the environment in a manner that is developmentally appropriate.
3-Year Old Preschool Class
We believe that three year olds are capable of understanding, reasoning and they are ready to learn about character. We promote character development by emphasizing the six pillars of character--Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. In addition to this, we emphasize academics with literacy serving as the primary component. We believe that each child is capable of reading by their fourth birthday so we work with our three year olds as they become early readers. In addition to this we continue to assure that our three year olds continue to learn the basic concepts and constructs in line with our STEM focus. In this vein, we continue to lay down the foundation for a strong academic career that begins with reading as a daily habit and learning about their environment as a constant quest.
Transitional Prekindergarten Class
We believe that it is important for students to make a seamless transition into kindergarten. In order to make this possible, we gradually decrease the nap time of our students and continue to enforce rigid scheduling. We provide them with the necessary tools that will enable them to engage with other students as well as a teacher in a more structured classroom setting. Academics still remain the primal focus but we will provide the tools necessary to assure that our students are academically, socially and emotionally capable of excelling in kindergarten.
Kindergarten Class
We feel that kindergarten sets the stage for formal education. It is the first formal classroom for our children. We set the foundation for academic success and assure that all of our children acquire the academic, social and emotional skills necessary to become life-long learners. We provide our students with the opportunity to engage their natural curiousity as they learn the fundamentals of reading, writing and mathematics in a fun and creative way. We emphasize the uniqueness of each child and create an individualized academic achievement plan that is guided by our children's learning styles.
After School Academic Enrichment Program
Our academic enrichment program for school-aged children is specially designed for students between the ages of 4 and 10 who are enrolled in a local elementary school. (We only accept new students under the age of eight and our students age out at ten years old). The program takes an individualized approach to academic enrichment. We assess each student within the first two weeks of enrollment in order to determine his/her strengths, weaknesses and deficits. Based on the results of this assessment, we create an individualized academic enrichment plan aimed at assuring that our students are able to compete with their non-marginalized counterparts. This is a unique program in that it is one that has been constantly evolving based on lessons learned from dealing with our unique service population. We not only provide one-on-one homework assistance daily but we provide specialized enrichment activities aimed at assuring that our students excel both in school and in life.
